Lightborne Helps Light Up The Square

3CDC’s BILL DONABEDIAN, MANAGING DIRECTOR - FOUNTAIN SQUARE invited Lightborne to create a motion graphic blitz to go along with a fireworks display on Fountain Square to kick off the holiday season.  Knowing that no worthy visual display is complete without a sa-lammin’ music mix, our own Ryan Limke launched us into the project by creating a nine-minute medley.  Joe Rozzi gave our track his stamp of approval and designed the fireworks show to it.  Since the blasts were coming from behind the Square’s Jumbo Tron, this gave our designer/animator Ryan McAllister the perfect canvas on which to choreograph the motion graphics.  Lightborne EP Molly Gray and Lightborne Producer Riann Wiggins (who oversaw this project) witnessed the show firsthand.  Gray has a long-standing history with Joe Rozzi and his fireworks kin - it was cool to finally collaborate.  (Let’s do something bigger and more fiery next year Joey!)

VMA Michael Jackson Tribute

When our friend, MTV director Jason Roth invited us to work on the commercial he was soon to produce, a promo teasing the Michael Jackson Tribute on this year’s VMAs, we were all in.  The concept involved a challenging shoot around NYC showing glittering left hand gloves gently raining down on the streets.  Roth was able to shoot some of the heavenly gloves practically but Lightborne’s team added many more to the mix.  Under the creative direction of Ben Nicholson, the piece was edited and color corrected by Brandon Kraemer.  Our CG team, Eric Lawshe and Evan Sheldon recreated the gloves that were later composited by Dave Irion.  Funny bit:  When the Red footage arrived on drives, MTV producer Sheree Shu had secured them within the FedEx package by cushioning the box with the gloves from the shoot.  Thanks Sheree!

It’s usually right about this time of year that we get the call from Kenny’s director, Shaun Silva, saying it’s time to start thinking about next year’s tour.  One week before this Indianapolis show, we instead got the call that Kenny was taking some time off and had decided not to launch a major tour in 2010.  While this meant a major shift in dynamic, our immediate reaction was to be happy for this entertainer who deserves a break while looking forward to a massively awesome comeback tour in 20??.

Thanks for a great run KC!  We can’t wait to get back to work when you’re ready. (single tear)

Lightborne Gang travels to Chicago for U2 Show

Three of us with significant others in gracious tow traveled to Chicago to see U2.  Make no mistake, each of us were also there to see that piece of brilliance thought up by Willie Williams and architected (it’s a word) by Mark Fisher of Stufish.  Get any one of us started and we’re likely to bore you with our accounts of the energetic set by the opening act (SNOW PATROL) or the song that teased U2 taking the stage (Bowie’s MAJOR TOM) or that stage set and its tricks.  Suffice it to say, we’d all recommend a road trip to see it - whether you’re a U2 fan or not.

Avant-garde director Eric Wareheim, also known as Eric from Adult Swim’s Tim & Eric Awesome Show, has created a truly original music video for the alternative rock legends Depeche Mode. Lightborne editor Jeremiah Shuff laces the cut on this one, helping to realize Eric’s polarizing vision. You need to see this for yourself. Be sure to brush your breath before watching - you might get lucky.
